Mary "May" Nosoko Carney, passed away prematurely on May 27, 2025, with loved ones by her side. She was born on November 23, 1958, in Okinawa, Japan, a place she had hoped to revisit.
May was very determined and showed amazing fortitude to rise above Life's challenges. She was an individual, who valued friendship and relationships over material goods. From the outside looking in, one would never see the many adversities she rose above. May was a self-taught auto mechanic and carpenter using YouTube videos to guide her. She was self reliant and always had a way of making do.
May was a humanitarian, and held a strong belief that hardship should never define the heart nor the soul. She lived her life with a generous spirit, always exhibiting kindness and understanding. Her laughter, which came easily, resonated the warmth she shared with friends and family alike.
Mary was multifaceted, delving into diverse hobbies that represented her curiosity and intellect. She enjoyed watching Korean films and television, immersing herself in the narratives that often bridged cultures. Her dedication extended to academics as well; she loved the study of languages and devoted two hours a day to the study of mathematics, both reflecting her love for knowledge. Music was another significant element of her life; she found joy in various genres, from country to classical to jazz, to world music.
Mary is survived by her best friend Tammi Vinci, whom shared countless memories and an enduring friendship. May is also survived by, her siblings Eileen Kipp, Diane Manning, and Patrick (Carm) Carney, She will also be fondly remembered and missed by her beloved cats — Cubby, Little Sister, Susie, and Lulu — who undoubtedly provided comfort and companionship to her during her life.
Continuing to shine brightly in the hearts of those she touched, Mary is predeceased by her sister, Darleen Burke, and her mother, Chiyoko Nosoko.
