Michael Smades

Michael Smades passed away peacefully on September 29, 2026 surrounded by loved ones. He was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather. Michael is survived by his loving wife Kathy Smades, his daughter Tara Shields (Dennis), grandson Dennis ‘Ralphy’ Shields, sister Barbara Austin (Brian), nephews Matthew Austin (Kara & Milo) and Josh Austin (Jess). He was predeceased by his mother and father, Leslie and Carol Smades. He is also survived by his mother-in-law Marty Kyle, father-in-law Richard Kyle, sister-in- laws Sharon Quataert (Michael), Michelle Gamble (Jon), and Jackie Hartter (Kevin) and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Michael was a proud electrician for more than 3 decades and finished his career at a place dear to his heart, American Siepmann. He loved music, dancing, being outside, reading, and watching Buffalo Bills football and UNC college basketball games. Michael’s smile, humor, and spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He would ask that you ‘take care of yourself and each other.’

No prior calling hours. Services will be held at Trinity Emmanuel Lutheran Church at 761 Elmgrove Rd. Rochester, NY on Saturday, October 10, 2026 at 2:30pm.
