Passed away on June 11, 2026 at the age of 69.
Predeceased by her husband, Charles Sarka; parents, Newton & Joan Church; and close friend, Devone Kennedy.
She is survived by her siblings, Sandy (Mike) Lupiani, Kathy Church, Ross Aronson, and Len (Dina) Aronson; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and chosen family.
Nancy was born in Long Island, NY, where she lived until moving to Rochester, NY at the age of 11. While in Rochester, she attended the School Without Walls, where she received her high school diploma in 1975, and Monroe Community College, where she obtained her Associate of Science degree in 1978.
After graduation Nancy split her time living between New York and Florida. She worked for the United States Postal Service for 45 years, her career spanning Rochester, St Pete, and Tampa. Whether she was up North or down South, Nancy was embraced equally by friends and family who found her warmth and thoughtfulness unmatched; Nancy was always first to offer words of encouragement or an act of favor whenever or wherever needed.
Nancy met her knight in shining armor (her words) Marine Veteran Charles (Charlie) Sarka in Florida in 1991. The pair married in 1992 and spent the years up until Charlie’s death in 2021 running half-marathons together and enjoying each other’s company at the beach, feeding pelicans.
During this time, Nancy worked as a loved and respected crossing guard for the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office for 8 years. She was awarded a certificate for perfect attendance, a special recognition award, and was even nominated for Crossing Guard of the Year in 2023. Upon her retirement, Nancy was surprised by students, family, and staff from Oakhurst Elementary school with a singing pink gorilla, a whimsical token of appreciation for the bright and playful spirit Nancy shared with them all.
Throughout her life Nancy enjoyed clipping coupons and finding the best bargain shopping and deals. She was a dancer from a young age and continued participating in ballet and tap dance classes throughout her adult years.
Nancy was a kind and generous person who was not afraid to laugh often or loudly. All who knew her were honored to have her light shine upon them, and her memory will remain a bright blessing on even the darkest of days.
Family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 23, from 4-7pm at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 2636 Ridgeway Avenue.
