Nyla Jean Cupp
Rochester: Passed away peacefully after a long battle with cancer on February 3, 2016 at the age of 83. Jean is preceded in death by her mother and father, Margaret (Faye) Nye-Cupp and William A. Cupp, and her only brother, William H. Cupp. Jean is survived by her "daughter", Kimberly Cupp-Nolan; son-in-law, James Nolan and their daughter, Ashley Nolan, as well as nieces and nephews, Nancy, Billy, Mark, and Lorraine. She also leaves behind her Aunt Mildred Murphy; sister-in-law, Nancy Cupp, as well as beloved pets Chachi and Jack.
Nyla Jean Cupp was born November 25th 1932 in Manhattan Kansas; she left Manhattan May 1955 pursuing her education at Nyack College. While at Nyack she traveled with school missionaries to many countries to sing, visiting places such as Israel, Ireland, and several countries in Africa. She earned a Ph.D. in both Theology and English Studies and a degree in Early Childhood Education. She was a special education teacher and later administrator for the Rochester City School District where she pioneered the IEP program for special education students. She worked under the belief that any child was capable of learning if given the tools. After retiring from the school district she taught teenagers at Charles Finney High School, she also worked as a Pastor at Bethel Full Gospel Church until her retirement in 2002.
A Life Celebration Service will be held at Bethel Christian Fellowship, call church for time and date to be announced or to send flowers.
Pastor Jean lived a long fulfilling life and touched the hearts of many along the way, she will be greatly missed.
