Patricia Elizabeth (Beyer) Collier
Rochester, NY: On March 21, 2011, Pat passed peacefully and on her own terms. For 9 years, Pat endured the rare and cruel disease Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) with courage, humor and compassion. In the process, she inspired all who beheld her. Many had the benefit of crossing paths with Pat, whether in her role of medical receptionist at Greater Rochester Orthopedics and Dr. Jamison's ophthalmology practice, or as a volunteer with Greyhound Pets of America, Meals on Wheels, Metro Justice, Swillburg Neighborhood Association and church choirs, or as "pastor's wife" at Lutheran churches in Avon (Epiphany), Spencerport (Trinity), Sayville (St. Johns), Glens Falls (Good Shepherd), and Rome (Faith)—all in New York State.
Pat was born in Erie, Pennsylvania in 1943, the daughter of Miotte "Betty" (Arnold) and Walter Beyer, who both left this life more than 20 years ago. She is survived by her grateful and adoring family who have benefited immeasurably from her love and lessons—husband, Rev. John S. Collier, daughters Erin Collier-Hartman, Jennifer Banister and Kate Collier, sons Jonathan and Mark Collier, and their partners/spouses Tim Hartman, Tony Brown, Maureen Behan and Shelley Collier, sister Victoria Fabrizio of Erie, PA, and precious grandchildren Jahala, Ian, Jordan and Indigo Rain.
The family is indebted to St. Johns Home Comfort Care floor on 2South who, over the past 1½ years, embraced her love for life and laughter gently and with zest, as well to the kind, committed home health aides who became like family, and to all of the friends and church members who volunteered time and tasks to create a circle of care around our family.
Friends may call 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM Thurs. March 24th at the Lutheran Church of the Epiphany on Rt. 5 (6050 Avon-Lima Road—Exit 10 off of Rt. 390) in Avon (585-226-2200). A funeral service celebrating her life will be held 12 noon Fri. March 25th at Trinity Lutheran Church on Rt. 31 (191 Nichols St.) in Spencerport (585-352-3143). Interment at Mount Hope Cemetery.
Donations can be made in Pat's name to PSP Foundation (www.psp.org) to help them find the source and cure for PSP, or to Greyhound Pets of America, Rochester Chapter (http://www.greyhoundadopt.org).
