Phyllis Mary (Rabita) (Bonanno) DiLiberto, a devoted mother, cherished sister, and beloved friend, passed away peacefully on April 23, 2026, in Penfield, NY. Born on May 20, 1935, in Rochester, NY, Phyllis's life spanned an era of profound change, and she embraced each moment with grace, warmth, and unwavering strength.
Phyllis dedicated much of her life to caring for others through her career at Strong Memorial Hospital. Her compassion and kindness left an indelible mark on her colleagues and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Beyond her professional life, she was an ardent fan of the Buffalo Bills and a devoted admirer of Josh Allen, often delighting in sharing the excitement of the game with family and friends.
Her passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of many, yet her memory shines brightly in the lives she touched. She is lovingly remembered by her sister, Marlene, and her children: sons James D. Bonanno (Sheila), Michael A. Bonanno (Bernadette), Christopher S. Bonanno (Kelly), and daughter Mary Beth Navarra (Mark). Phyllis also embraced her role as a stepmother to Donna, Cheryl, Jean-Marie, and James Jr., nurturing bonds that ran deep and true.
Her family continues to grow through the love and joy she fostered—eleven grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren are treasured testaments to her enduring legacy. She is also survived by the father of her children James J. Bonanno, with whom she shared a lifetime of memories. The threads of her extended family include loving nieces, a nephew, many cousins, and a circle of dear friends who held her close to their hearts.
Phyllis’s life was enriched by the tender care of Linda Starken, whose devotion brought comfort and peace in her final days. This compassionate presence mirrored the love Phyllis gave so freely throughout her life.
Though she bids farewell to this world, Phyllis joins her parents, Buddy and Agnes DiStefano Rabita, her husband James DiLiberto, and her sister Joan Theodor, who preceded her in passing. Their spirits remain intertwined, watching over those she so deeply loved.
The family will hold a visitation with relatives and friends on April 29, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at New Comer Funeral Home, Eastside, located at 6 Empire Blvd, Rochester, NY 14609.
