Listen to Obituary

Passed away on March 19, 2026 at the age of 80.

Richard is predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Barbara. Richard is survived by his daughters Kim Momano (Kevin), Kristin Tabone (Peter) and Jennifer Reno (Donald), grandchildren Allison, Adam and Ashley, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Richard was a very hard-working man. He spent his younger years working in the printing industry as a platemaker at Stecher-Traung Lithograph Company. As he got older, his passion for cooking lead him to careers in the food industry where he spent many years cooking for different restaurants. At home, everyone knew of his passion for cooking. There was never anything he made that came directly from a cookbook. He may have opened several over the years, however, if you asked him to write a recipe down he would tell you he created it from his own taste and that there was no recipe. The best way to learn from him was to join in making dishes he loved to make and his girls all learned how to cook from him directly. Food was a very important part of our gatherings and holidays over the years.

Richard was very outgoing and enjoyed hunting and fishing in his earlier years. Camping was also one of Richard’s loves. We often talked about all of our fishing excursions in the middle of the night at the campground ponds or the time we caught the snapping turtle, just so he could show us it could be done. He and our mom spent their time traveling to different east coast cities when we were younger, spent time at the ocean and near any kind of seafood, which was his absolute favorite. They visited with Jennifer and her family for many years, sometimes spending a couple of the summer months each year staying in Georgia.

Richard’s three grandchildren were the loves of his life. He was always spoiling them with special meals and gifts. He looked forward to holidays and also special visits from his Georgia family. Many days were spent sitting in the house or the driveway just spending hours with family and reminiscing about times gone by. Holidays were always a joyful time for Richard as he really looked forward to being around his family.

Richard had an amazing memory. He often times recalled how he could remember himself during his toddler years. There wasn’t a fact that he could not remember, even small finite details that no one else even thought of! His girls regularly called him to ask for cooking tips, political discussions and the like. He knew a lot about just about everything.

Richard loved all types of sports, but especially his Buffalo Bills. We had a text chain with him on each game day so we could celebrate together and also to express our frustration! We were hoping that this was going to be the Bill’s year and that he would be around to see them win a Superbowl. No doubt we will all still be watching and thinking of him on game days. He loved to watch the U.S. women’s soccer team as well, which was a passion he shared with Jennifer and her family.

Last, but certainly not least, he was predeceased by his wife Barbara, who he was married to for almost 60 years. He also lost his buddy, Nico shortly before that which was very hard for him. He loved animals and had many dogs that he hunted with over the years as well. Richard’s family is heartbroken and he will be sadly missed by all. We will take all the tips and knowledge he shared with us over the years and keep him close to our hearts always.

A private service will be arranged by the immediate family at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please donate to North Shore Animal League in Richard’s name.
