Rosalia Centanni, a cherished mother, grandmother, business owner, and beacon of laughter and warmth, passed away on June 17, 2026, in Rochester, New York. Born on September 29, 1932, in Alia, Sicily, Rosalia’s life was a testament to strength, humor, and dedication to her family and community.
Rosalia’s vibrant and indomitable spirit was evident to all who knew her. Though a small woman in stature, she possessed a big personality that could fill any room. Her quick wit and great sense of humor brought joy and smiles to everyone around her, making her presence unforgettable. It was this unique charm that endeared her to family, friends, and patrons alike throughout her life.
She was the proud owner of Rose Centanni’s Beauty Shop, where she dedicated many years to her craft. Her salon was not only a place where beauty was enhanced but also where connections were forged and laughter was shared. Through her work, Rosalia became a beloved figure in the community, touching the lives of countless individuals with her kindness and attentiveness.
Family was Rosalia’s greatest pride and accomplishment. She is deeply missed by her devoted daughter, Julia Sylar, and Julia’s husband, Harry. Rosalia's love and guidance continue to live on in her grandchildren: Joe, Rosalia, and Michael Centanni, and Giavanna Sylar. She was also loved and supported by her daughter-in-law, Joyce; her brothers Joe Fusco and his wife Joanne, and Sam Fusco and his wife Anita; her brother-in-law, Sam Centanni; as well as many nieces and nephews who treasured her presence and wisdom.
Rosalia's life was marked by the loss of dear family members who preceded her in death, including her beloved husband of sixty-seven years, Joseph; her son, Joseph L.; her parents, Leo and Elizabeth; her sisters, Carmela and Louise; her brother, Mario; her sisters-in-law, Rosalie, Anna, Josephine, and Silvia; and her brothers-in-law, Ignazio and Rosario. Their memories remain forever in the hearts of those who loved her.
Rosalia Centanni’s journey from the quaint town of Alia, Sicily, to the vibrant community of Rochester is a story of resilience, devotion, and unyielding joy. She leaves behind a legacy of laughter, love, and a family bound together by her enduring spirit. Her memory will forever be a guiding light for those who were fortunate to know her.
