Rose Ellen Larish (née Quinn), age 93, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2025, in Rochester, NY.
Born on April 18, 1932, Rose Ellen was raised on a dairy farm and graduated from Chenango Forks Central School in Binghamton, NY. She began her professional life at Ansco, where she met her future husband, John Larish. They married in 1961 and raised four children, moving around the country before finally settling in Fairport, NY, the place they would call home.
Once her children were grown, Rose Ellen returned to the workforce as a program assistant at RIT, where she dedicated her time and talents until retirement, and was blessed to make lifelong friends.
Rose Ellen found joy in life’s simple pleasures—reading novels, and working on jigsaw puzzles, sudoku and word searches. She loved long walks and treasured time with her family. Known for her gentle spirit, quiet wit, and steadfast loyalty, she left a lasting impression on all who knew her.
She was a devoted mother to John (Katy Schneebaum), Mary, Jim (Susanna Suh), and Susan (Darril) Otto; a proud grandmother to Ashley (Mitch), Courtney, Tyler (Melissa Reeves), Charlotte, Aidan, Snow, Colin, and Julia; and a loving great-grandmother to Sloane and Teddy. Rose Ellen also leaves behind her cherished sisters Mary (Jim) Gallagher and Margaret Quinn; sister-in-law Ruth Quinn; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Rose Ellen was predeceased by her husband John; her parents, Agnes and John Quinn; her brothers Robert and Jack Quinn; and her niece Kathleen Copeland.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the community at St. John’s Meadows, whose warmth and companionship brought so much joy to Rose Ellen’s later years. They would also like to thank the teams at St. John’s Home and URMC Hospice, who cared for her with kindness and compassion in her final days.
A visitation will be held on Friday, June 13, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Saint Anne Church, 1600 Mt. Hope Avenue, Rochester, NY 14620, followed by a funeral service at 3:00 p.m.
