With heavy hearts, we come together to remember and honor the life of Ruth Knitter, known for her warmth, kindness, and remarkable talents in the kitchen. Ruth was born Ruth Martin on October 7, 1933, in Neustadt an der Weinstrasse Germany. She passed away peacefully on August 13, 2024, at Fairport Baptist Home.
Ruth was predeceased by her beloved husband, Hawley "Lee" Knitter, first husband Jack Burns and daughter Sharon Burns. She cherished her family deeply and leaves behind her son, Patrick Burns, daughter-in-law Shelley, grandchildren Kristine and Michael. In addition, she is survived by her granddaughter, Nicole, grandsons, Colton, Efrain and Steven, sister-in-law Mary Ann Sheflin, her daughter Missey, and many nieces and nephews in Germany, Oregon, California and Rhode Island all of whom were a source of joy and love in her life.
A talented cook and baker, Ruth's culinary skills were unmatched. Her Christmas cookies were a highlight of the holiday season, with flavors and decorations that rivaled those of any professional bakery. Many evenings were spent in the comfort of her kitchen, baking up delights after tucking her children into bed. Beyond the kitchen, Ruth found joy in the creative arts of knitting and crocheting, crafting beautiful pieces that will serve as lasting reminders of her creativity and skill.
Ruth Knitter's legacy extends far beyond her culinary creations and artistic endeavors. She will be remembered for her gentle spirit, unwavering love for her family, and the kindness she shared with all who had the privilege of knowing her. As we mourn her passing, let us also celebrate the life of a remarkable woman who brought light and love into the world.
Calling hours will be Thursday August 22nd from 3pm to 6pm at New Comer Cremations and Funerals 2636 Ridgeway Ave.
In honoring Ruth's memory, let us carry forward the values of love, creativity, and kindness that she embodied. May she rest in peace, knowing that she was truly cherished and will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known her.
