With heartfelt sympathy, we announce the passing of Salle Dima Daniel. He passed on July 6, 2026 at the age of 54. Salle Dima Daniel was born on January 1, 1972 in Sudan to his parents, Dima Daniel and Wunke.
Salle was a very intelligent and ambitious man. He spoke multiple languages, including ‘Twampa, English, Arabic, and Maban among others! He had a passion for education and he worked as an English teacher in Sudan, and later worked in the education field in the United States as well.
Salle was also very passionate about the wellbeing of his people, the Kwanimpa/Uduk people of Sudan. He served in the military to protect and support refugees in the Blue Nile region of Sudan.
As a very young man, he met and married Rumthus Garis Daniel. Together they had 4 living children: Liasor Dima, Talita Dima, Jamal Dima, and Mike Dima. They also shared three other children who went on to heaven at a young age. In addition, Salle had two sons from another marriage, Suber and Jackson. Suber and Jackson currently live in Doro Refugee Camp with their wives and children.
Salle and Rumthus resettled in the United States in 2000 after leaving behind conflict and displacement in Sudan. In 2016, Salle and Rumthus founded an organization called Uduk Hope, Inc. with the focus of supporting refugee communities dear to their hearts in four camps in South Sudan and Ethiopia. Their son, Liasor still manages Uduk Hope today.
Salle will be remembered for his strength, persistence, and love. He had an incredible memory and a heart for storytelling. He could often be found recounting the historical stories of his people, playing the dengdenge, spending time with his grandchildren, or relaxing to an episode of NCIS.
Salle leaves to treasure his memories his loving wife, Rumthus Garis Daniel (Rochester, NY); his children, Liasor Dima (Rochester, NY), Talita Dima (Rochester, NY), Jamal Dima (Rochester, NY), Mike Dima (Rochester, NY), Suber (Doro Camp, South Sudan), Jackson (Doro Camp, South Sudan); his grandchildren, Ariah Nelson (Rochester, NY), Simeon Dima (Rochester, NY), A’liyah Dima (Rochester, NY), Arthur Dima (Rochester, NY); and his siblings, Nuria Daniel (Chali, Sudan), and Pera Daniel (Chali, Sudan).
