Shirley B. Lindner, a dedicated health administrator with over 30 years of service to Monroe County, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2026. She was born on February 21, 1934, and throughout her life, Shirley made a profound impact on those around her through her unwavering commitment to her work and her unwavering love for her family.
A proud alumna of Keuka College, Shirley earned her bachelor's degree before furthering her education with a master's in nursing from the University of Rochester. Her career in public health was marked by her dedication and passion, earning her respect and admiration from colleagues and community members alike.
Known for her warmth and kindness, Shirley always had good stories to share, and she greeted everyone she met with a smile and a hug. She cherished spending time with her family and was particularly known for making birthdays a special occasion filled with joy and love. Her vibrant spirit was also reflected in her hobbies; she found pleasure in hunting, fishing, gardening, and even square dancing. An animal lover at heart, Shirley shared her life for 36 years with her husband, George, surrounded by numerous cats and dogs that brought her immense happiness.
Shirley is survived by her beloved husband, George; her son-in-law, Tom; her step-daughter, Georgette, and her husband Tim; her grandchildren, Marie, Anthony, Alex, and Bryan; her great grandson, Gavin; her brother, Leon; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will dearly miss her presence.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leon and Margaret; her sons, Lynn and John; her first husband, Don; and her sister, Charlotte. Each of these losses shaped her into the compassionate and loving person she became.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during the visitation on March 12, 2026, at New Comer Funeral Home, Eastside, located at 6 Empire Blvd, Rochester, NY, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM. A memorial service will follow, beginning at 6:00 PM and concluding at 7:00 PM at the same location. Burial to follow at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Red Cross or Lollypop Farm in Shirley's memory.
Shirley's legacy of kindness, love, and joy will continue to resonate in the hearts and minds of all who were fortunate enough to know her. She will be remembered not only for her professional contributions but also for the deep love she shared with her family and friends.
