It is with deep sadness we share that Thomas George Lunney passed away on June 6, 2025 surrounded by family.
He was the loving husband of 55 years to his beautiful Colleen, proud father of Jennifer (Adam) and Meghan (Chad), devoted and enthusiastic Pops of five grandchildren (Riley, Julia, Owen, Elliott and Oliver).
In 2023, he suffered the loss of his brother, William Lunney (Norma) which devastated him. Born in Yates County, he loved taking drives and reminiscing about all the beautiful, humble places he lived as a child. Tom was a proud United States Marine and enjoyed sharing stories of his time in the service. With a spotless memory and a deep curiosity, he was a voracious speed reader and a captivating storyteller with a clever wit. Up until his 60s he could be seen traveling around on his motorcycle or in his beloved 1969 Plymouth Fury convertible, “Christine.” He treasured spending summers in the Thousand Island region of NY state with his family.
He loved music and was proud to share his Irish heritage listening to everything from Irish jigs to bluegrass and Hank Williams to polka. He thoroughly enjoyed his work at the Helendale Road Primary School, proclaiming out of all his work, that was the best job he ever had.
As a dedicated caretaker and advocate, Tom was often the first person many people called when navigating tricky situations. He never failed to provide a beautiful blend of support and know-how, usually in the form of a joke, a listening ear, a strong back, or just friendly, sound advice. He was thoughtful and sincere, quick to compliment, and a treasured soul, one who will be missed by all.
A Celebration of Life will be held on July 15, 2025, from 2-5pm, Sanctuary on Ridge, 1638 Ridge Rd., Ontario, NY 14519.
