Verna A. Nelson, of N. Chili passed away on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at the age of 92. She was born on May 14, 1932, in Fowlerville, New York.
Verna was predeceased by her husband, Robert F. Nelson, as well as her parents, Franklin and Letitia Angevine. She was also preceded in death by her brothers and sister: Franklin Angevine, Shirley (Robert) Evans, and Donald (Susan) Angevine; her brother-in-law, Edward McManus; and her daughter-in-law, Angela Nelson.
Family was the cornerstone of Verna’s life. She is survived by her children, Patricia (George) Roides, Mary (James) Butlin, Matthew Nelson, Donna (Steven) Contestabile, Martha (Michael McIlroy) Nelson, and Stanley (Renee) Nelson.
Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Kevin (Janel), Cody (Loni), Janah (Ryan), McKenzie, Hailey (Nolan), Kyle (Gracie), Justin (Alyssa), Morgan (Nick), Taylor (Nick), Trevor, Faylinn, and Ryley. Verna also cherished her great-grandchildren, who brought her immense joy: Jameson, Henley, Landry, Mallory, Grayson, Kinsleigh, Levi, and Lyra.
In addition to her children and grandchildren, Verna is survived by her sister, Vivian McManus, and sister in law Cathy Angevine as well as many nieces, nephews, and her special canine friend, Tanner.
Verna spent much of her career as a long time employee of the Rochester Telephone Company, illustrating her work ethic and commitment to her profession. She was also a long-standing parishioner of St. Christopher's Church, where she actively participated in her faith community. She was also a long time Atlanta Braves, Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres fan. Some of her favorite times were spent with her brothers and sisters along with their spouses at weekly lunch dates around Monroe county.
Visitation for Verna A. Nelson will be held at New Comer Funeral Home, located at 2636 Ridgeway Ave, Rochester, NY 14626, on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, from 4:30 PM to 7:00 PM. Her funeral Mass will be held at St. Christopher's Church, 3350 Union Street, North Chili, NY 14514, on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at 12:00 PM. Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery
The family would like to extend their thanks to all the staff at Unity Hospital 4200 Unit and Hildebrandt Hospice for the care they provided to Verna.
Verna A. Nelson will be deeply missed but never forgotten. Her legacy of love and compassion will continue to inspire those she left behind.
