William Glitzer

December 28, 1928 — December 31, 2019

Gates- Passed away peacefully surrounded by family on December31, 2019 at the age of 91.

He is predeceased by his parents, Otto and Agnes Glitzer; his sisters and brothers in law, Gary Pardo, Joe (Judy) Gerew, Harry Youles, Ron (Marlene) Gerew, Tom (Rahni) Gerew, and Jerry Gerew.

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Suzann (Gerew); beloved children, Bill (Anna) Glitzer, Cindy Glitzer, and Michelle (Paul Walters) Glitzer; adored grandchildren, Annika and Marissa Glitzer, Bailey and Taylor Lucas, Ashley(Peter Cook) and Mikey Glitzer; treasured great- grand daughter, Madison Cook; sister, Carol Pardo; sisters and brothers in law, Mary Ellen Youles, Jack (Barb) Gerew, Kenny (Candy) Gerew, Mary Zarcone, and Sharon Gerew; several nieces and nephews.

Bill was born in Rochester, NY. He attended Ben Franklin HS where he played football, basketball and baseball. He enlisted into the US Marine Corps out of high school. After discharge he went on to play professional baseball for a short stint with the Boston Red Sox farm club. His career was cut short due to injury. He went on to play fast-pitch softball with Bon Jon's, where he was an incredible shortstop. His team played in a National Championship.

He met his wife Suzann through his best friend Joe Gerew. They married in 1959 and recently celebrated 60 years of marriage. They went on to start a family and had three children. He loved spending time with his kids. Bill was known as the "official pitcher/quarterback" for the many kickball, baseball and football games that were held in his backyard for the neighborhood kids. He worked hard all day and then would spend countless hours outside with his three kids and the neighbor kids. He enjoyed taking vacations with his family to Florida and Disney World. His favorite place soon became Jekyll Island Georgia, where he would take the family yearly.

Bill passed his love for sports down to his children and grandchildren. He was always on the sidelines (sometimes as coach) watching his kids/grandkids play sports. He was a longtime member of Chili Country Club, where he taught his kids the game of golf. Later in life he enjoyed spending time with his six grandchildren and one great granddaughter. He will forever be remembered for the "stories" he told them and the time he spent with them. He especially loved to color with them and was an exceptional artist, with many cartoon drawings still hanging on the fridge. Bill was an avid Yankees, Giants and Syracuse fan. He will be missed by all who knew him.
