William dedicated his professional life to being a tool and die maker, a field in which he excelled for many years. He proudly retired from Dynak in 2001, leaving a legacy of craftsmanship and a strong work ethic that he instilled in his family. He graduated from Edison Tech with a degree in drafting, demonstrating both his commitment to education and his passion for engineering.

In addition to his career, William proudly served as a Corporal in the Marine Corps, embodying the dedication and discipline that characterized his life. His sense of humor was renowned among family and friends, and he had a special affection for children, often lighting up any room he entered with his laughter. His love for his bride, Jerilyn, whom he cherished deeply for 64 wonderful years, was evident to all who knew them.

William had a wide range of interests that kept him vibrant and engaged. He was a devoted fan of the New York Yankees, enjoyed playing Texas Hold ’Em, and found joy in his ponies. These hobbies reflected his zest for life and his ability to appreciate the simple pleasures that each day had to offer.

He is survived by his loving wife, Jerilyn Merritt; his sisters, Kelcie Merritt and Laura Lynn (George) Meyer; his children, Cathy Haas, Kenneth (Cary) Merritt, Laurie (Rolf) Boessmann, James (Jeanne) Merritt, and Teresa Merritt; his grandchildren, Donald Haas, Keith (Samantha) Haas, Paul (Cody) Haas, Allison (Jereme) Thompson Gunther, Logan Thompson, Bryan Merritt, and Lindsey (Jeffrey) Parmelee; and his eleven great-grandchildren. Each of them was a source of joy and pride in William’s life.

He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Laura Merritt; his brothers, Richard A. Merritt and Jacque Merritt; and his son-in-law, Timothy Haas. Their memories will remain alive through the stories shared and the love that continues to bind this family.
